The First Witness
Reality
Before stars, before galaxies, before time itself, there was nothing.
No light.
No darkness.
No space.
No existence.
Only an endless void beyond comprehension.
From beyond that void came a being known as Byzantium.
Little is known of the realm from which she originated. Ancient records describe it as a dimension beyond dimensions, a place untouched by the laws that would later govern reality. Byzantium was not sent as a conqueror or creator, but as an observer—a scout tasked with witnessing the birth of a new existence.
Upon her arrival, she found herself standing at the edge of creation itself.

Not the birth of a universe.
Not the formation of stars.
But the creation of an entirely new dimension.
As this newborn realm expanded around her, something extraordinary occurred.

The dimension recognized her presence.
Its laws reshaped her.
Its essence intertwined with her being.
The observer known as Byzantium ceased to exist.
In her place emerged Reality.
As Reality awakened to her new existence, the dormant energies surrounding her erupted outward. This event became the first great expansion of creation, an explosion of unimaginable force that would one day be remembered as the Big Bang.
Galaxies formed.

Matter emerged.
The foundations of existence were laid.
Reality became the living embodiment of all that was, all that is, and all that could ever be.
Yet even Reality was not destined to remain alone.
As creation continued to unfold, another primordial force manifested within the newborn dimension.
This being became known as Herald, the Spirit of Order.

Where Reality embodied limitless possibility, Herald embodied structure.
Where Reality represented existence itself, Herald represented the laws that allowed existence to endure.
The two forces were opposites, yet perfectly complementary.
Over time, affection grew into love, and from their union emerged the first generation of cosmic beings.
Their children would become the foundations upon which all existence was built:
Death, the keeper of endings.
Time, the ruler of moments.
Space, the vessel in which creation resides.
Together, these beings formed the first family of existence and began the long history that would eventually shape the world known today.
The First Children
Death

The first child born to Reality and Herald was Death.
Among mortals, Death is often misunderstood.
Many imagine Death as cruel, heartless, or malevolent. Others fear Death as an enemy to be conquered. Yet Death is neither villain nor savior.
Death simply is.
Without Death, there can be no change.
Without endings, there can be no beginnings.
A forest cannot grow unless old trees fall. A season cannot arrive unless another passes. Life itself depends upon a cycle of arrivals and departures.
Death does not hate the living.
Death gives life meaning.
Every moment becomes precious because it cannot last forever.
Every story matters because it will one day end.
Death is not the destruction of existence, but the guardian of transition. The force that ensures all things may continue their journey.
As with all primordial beings, Death possesses no true gender. Mortals merely perceive Death through forms they can understand, assigning identities to something far greater than themselves.
As life spread throughout creation, another force emerged.
From the first organisms struggling to survive, from the countless lives that refused to surrender against impossible odds, a new spirit manifested.
This spirit became known as Hope.
Hope was born from possibility.
Hope was the belief that tomorrow could be better than today.

Hope was the strength to continue when every reason to quit stood before you.
Where Death represented the certainty of all endings, Hope embodied the possibility of every future.
Though seemingly opposite forces, Death and Hope found understanding in one another.
In time, they eloped.
From their union came a child unlike any before.
A child who would shape the destiny of gods themselves.
That child was Faith.
Faith inherited the certainty of Death and the optimism of Hope.
Faith gave meaning to belief.
Faith gave strength to conviction.
Faith allowed dreams, ideals, and stories to become something greater than imagination.
From Faith emerged one of the most important laws within existence:
Belief grants power.
Every god, deity, spirit, pantheon, and divine being worshipped throughout the cosmos ultimately draws strength from Faith.

From Faith emerged one of the most important laws within existence:
Belief grants power.
Every god, deity, spirit, pantheon, and divine being worshipped throughout the cosmos ultimately draws strength from Faith.
So long as mortals believe, pray, remember, and devote themselves to these beings, Faith grants them power.
The more followers a deity possesses, the stronger that deity becomes.
When belief fades, their influence weakens.
When they are forgotten, they begin to disappear.
Thus, Faith became the foundation upon which countless gods would rise.
The Olympians.
The Aesir.
The spirits of forgotten worlds.
The gods of civilizations long lost to time.
Though they may call themselves creators, kings, or immortals, all owe their power to the same source.
Faith.
The child born from Death and Hope.

Space, Destiny, and the Butterfly
Evolution
The second child born to Reality and Herald was Space.
If Time governs moments, Space governs possibility.
Space is the distance between worlds.
The vastness between stars.
The emptiness that allows existence room to grow.
Every galaxy, every planet, every realm, and every corner of creation exists within Space.
Space is not merely where things are.
Space is where things can be.
As the universe expanded and life flourished, Space wandered creation, witnessing civilizations rise among the stars. Yet despite the endless wonders of existence, Space often found little peace.
Where there is life, there is conflict.

Where there is life, there is conflict.
Where there is growth, there is disorder.
It was during this era that Space encountered another primordial force.
The Spirit of Harmony.
Harmony brought balance where there was chaos.
Understanding where there was conflict.
Peace where there was unrest.
Where countless civilizations struggled against one another, Harmony reminded them that different voices could become part of the same song.
In Harmony, Space found tranquility.
And in Space, Harmony found purpose.
Together they brought forth a child known as Destiny.
Destiny became the first grandchild of Reality and Herald.
Among all the descendants of the First Family, none were more admired than Destiny.
Reality herself held great affection for the young primordial.
For Destiny represented order within possibility.
A path through uncertainty.
A future waiting to unfold.
From the moment of one's birth until the end of their journey, Destiny carefully guided every thread of existence.
Nothing occurred without purpose.
Nothing happened by chance.
Every life followed a path.
Every choice led to a predetermined destination.
For countless ages, Destiny's word was absolute.
Many envied him.
Many feared him.
None could challenge him.

Until Change appeared.
The Spirit of Change emerged from the endless transformation of existence itself.
Where Destiny saw a fixed road, Change saw countless possibilities.
Where Destiny valued certainty, Change embraced unpredictability.
The two should have been enemies.
Instead, they became inseparable.
Change challenged Destiny's understanding of existence and revealed a truth even he had failed to see:
A future without choice is not truly a future at all.
Together they transformed the way destiny itself operated.
For the first time, living beings were granted the ability to influence their own paths.
Destiny no longer dictated every outcome.
Instead, mortals and immortals alike were given the opportunity to shape their futures through their decisions.
Though Destiny still guides the countless threads of existence, those threads are no longer unbreakable.
Every choice creates possibility.
Every possibility creates change.
And from the union of Destiny and Change came a secret child.
A being known simply as The Butterfly.
Not a creature.
Not an insect.
But a primordial force.
The Butterfly embodies evolution, transformation, adaptation, and infinite possibility.
It is the living manifestation of every path not yet taken.
Every future waiting to be born.
Every version of what could be.
Where Destiny sees the road.
Where Change alters its direction.
The Butterfly sees all roads at once.
To this day, many scholars consider the Butterfly one of the most mysterious beings within existence, for even the gods cannot fully predict where transformation may lead.
For as long as change exists, possibility can never truly die.
Time, Magic, and the Dreamborn
The youngest child born to Reality and Herald was Time. While many mortals imagine Time as a river flowing endlessly forward, the truth is far more complex. Time is not merely the passage of moments, but the existence of every moment. The past, the present, and the future all reside within Time simultaneously. Every triumph, every tragedy, every choice ever made and every possibility yet unrealized exists somewhere within its infinite expanse. Among the children of Reality, Time was regarded as the wisest. Not because Time possessed the greatest strength, but because Time possessed understanding. Time witnessed all things. Time remembered all things. Time understood that every beginning carried an ending, and every ending carried the possibility of a new beginning.
Though wisdom grants perspective, it does not create change. For change to occur, potential must become action. Possibility must become reality. It was through this truth that Time came to know another primordial force: Power.
Power was inevitability given form. Where Time observed, Power acted. Where Time saw possibility, Power provided the means to achieve it. Every empire built, every mountain moved, every star ignited, and every civilization forged its destiny through Power. Though vastly different in nature, Time and Power found harmony within one another. Together they created a child whose existence would forever alter the course of creation itself.
That child was Magic.
Of all the descendants of the First Family, few have left a greater mark upon existence than Magic. Entire civilizations have risen and fallen because of it. Kingdoms have been built through its wonders and destroyed by its misuse. Yet Magic itself remains neither good nor evil. It possesses no morality, no bias, and no desire to favor one side over another. Magic is a force, much like fire. In the hands of one person it may heal, protect, and inspire. In the hands of another it may destroy, corrupt, and consume. The responsibility has never belonged to Magic itself. It belongs to those who choose how it is used.
In time, Magic found companionship in the Spirit of Balance. Balance understood a truth that many others overlooked: every action carries a consequence, every gain requires a cost, and every force must eventually meet its equal. Through their union, two ancient concepts that had always existed within creation awakened into conscious beings. These became Creation and Destruction.
Many mistake Creation and Destruction as enemies. In truth, they are partners in an eternal cycle. Creation gives rise to new possibilities, while Destruction clears away what has come before. One cannot exist without the other. Without Creation, nothing would ever begin. Without Destruction, nothing would ever change. Together they ensure that existence continues to grow rather than stagnate.
Yet despite his devotion to Balance, Magic was never entirely bound by order. There existed another force that continuously drew his attention. A realm where rules held little authority and imagination reigned supreme. That realm belonged to Dreams.
Dreams embodied everything beyond reason. Every impossible idea, every fantasy, every vision of what could be. Dreams was the birthplace of inspiration and wonder, the place where imagination wandered freely without concern for limitations. If Balance represented structure, Dreams represented possibility.
Their connection became one of the most controversial relationships within the history of the First Family.
As an old saying would later claim, "There were three in our marriage."
Balance understood this better than anyone.
From the union of Magic and Dreams came three extraordinary children: the Dragon, the Phoenix, and the Unicorn.
These were not merely the first examples of their species. They were the primordial embodiments from which all dragons, phoenixes, and unicorns would ultimately descend. The Dragon embodied limitless power, ambition, wisdom, and the desire to reach beyond one's limits. The Phoenix embodied renewal, resilience, rebirth, and the refusal to surrender even after destruction. The Unicorn embodied wonder, innocence, imagination, and the belief that beauty can still exist in a complicated world.
Unlike most members of the First Family, the Dreamborn were not burdened by a cosmic responsibility. They did not govern universal laws. They did not oversee fundamental aspects of reality. They were free in a way few beings could ever understand.
While other primordials served existence itself, the Dragon, Phoenix, and Unicorn were free to explore, dream, and become whatever they wished.
And in a universe governed by rules, there are few things more powerful than something truly free.
